A product designed in house for Barton Marine, headed up by Richard Riggs, a keen international sailor and former shareholder in the business.
The goal was to help revolutionise sailing with technology, with an aim to manufacture a range of marine winches from a composite polymer, and suitable for yachts with up to half ton racing capacity. Barton composite winches offer substantial reductions in both cost and weight, enhancing sailing performance without compromising on durability.
The innovative use of high-tech composites ensures these winches are virtually maintenance-free. The unique self-lubricating, friction-free design alongside corrosion resistance makes them an ideal choice for consistent operation under varied marine conditions. Each winch features a composite drum integrated with a stainless steel insert, enhancing wear resistance and extending the product’s lifespan.
On board maintenance was the watchword and the winches were serviced simply by removing the housing and spraying with clear water to remove any salt deposits ingested during normal usage.
The winches enjoyed success on the Mediterranean circuit with the Royal Spanish Racing Yacht having them fitted.
