The client:

A major producer and supplier in the global home beer and wine making industry.

The product:

Large mixing spoons, a vital component in a bestselling home brew kit.

The challenges:

The client’s spoons were being produced for them by a company in the Far East. The quality was inconsistent and many were substandard. The client wanted to regain quality control over these aspects of the business.

The solutions:

Initially, the client approached us to produce injection mouldings of spoons here in our UK factory. However, when we understood the client’s overall business requirements, we were then able to recommend a redesigned product that would not only ensure a consistently good production quality, but would also be considerably cheaper to produce. By moving their sourcing strategy from the Far East to us in the UK, their cost price per unit fell by over 25%.

What the client said:

Identifying a local manufacturer fitted right in with our sustainable procurement policy so we were really keen to work with Roland Plastics. At first it was just a case of resourcing the spoon on a like-for-like basis but when it became clear what capabilities Roland Plastics had, were were keen to work with them on a re-design. Since the launch of the spoon we have also worked with Roland Plastics on more successful resourcing projects often collaborating with other Muntons suppliers. We have always found the Roland Plastics team to be very proactive and responsive and at all times extremely professional.
